Edged in Blue : A Rock ‘n’ Roll Odyssey with Rory Gallagher
I often wondered why the full and real story of Rory Gallagher had not been written. I read a biog on Rory published some years ago, but the author was always a distance away from Rory, writing from the outside looking in, trying to surmise what he could not possibly know!
But at last, thirty one years after Rory’s death, we have the definitive firsthand biography written by his brother Dónal Gallagher. In the good tradition of Irish storytelling, we join the brothers on their ‘rock ‘n roll odyssey’, an apt phrase, as theirs is a story of untold adventure, connection not only with the stars of rock n roll, but also with the people of Ireland, from Rory’s birthplace in Ballyshannon, to the rebel county Cork, to gigs in Belfast during the Troubles.
Dónal Gallagher wrote the story with Jamie Dickson, and they have produced a masterpiece filled with intimacy, humour, encounters with legends, living on the edge and filled with passion. A tour de force.
